8 ALARM FIRE: Tell legislators to reject these bills robbing us of the citizens initiative process. So far, all Republicans opposing them, only Democrats for them.

Email legislators RIGHT NOW and tell them to reject these bills robbing us of the citizens right to initiative.

Thurs, Feb 24, 2022

There’s 3 horrible anti-initiative bills:

Substitute House Bill 1876 empowers the Attorney General to insert a biased sentence into the neutrally worded ballot title for tax initiatives, but not for other initiative topics. And it prohibits judicial oversight, meaning it violates the 100 year old law regarding neutrality and judicial check-and-balance. Yesterday, all the D’s in committee voted for it, all the R’s were against it (great job Sen. Jeff Wilson and Sen. Brad Hawkins for speaking out against it and voting no). If/when it goes to the Senate floor, that’s where the next battle will be fought.

House Bill 1727: long sessions are in odd years and that’s when the Legislature passes the big budgets. This bill prohibits citizen initiatives in these odd years, thus taking away half our initiative rights.

Senate Bill 5182: In 2007, 2010, 2012, and 2015, voters passed initiatives requiring there be tax advisory votes. Since 2012, there have been 38 tax hikes and they cost taxpayers $58.3 billion. We know all that because tax advisory votes inform citizens which taxes were increased, how much they’ll cost, how legislators voted, and allow the voters to express an opinion on whether they support or oppose the tax increase. SB 5182 takes all that away. In 10 years, 77,753,417 votes have been cast on those 38 tax advisory votes (that’s a lot of citizen participation): 28 tax increases were supported by voters, 10 tax increases received majority support. This shows that votes are engaged and discerning. SB 5182 hides all their tax increases, their legislative votes, and eliminates the voters right to express their opinion.

I ask you to do 2 things:

First, email all 147 legislators right now — I’ve made it really easy:

Copy & paste this into the Subject line:
Stop attacking the citizens initiative process: I urge you to strongly oppose SHB 1876, HB 1727, and SB 5182.

Copy & paste this (or something like this) into the body of the email (tell ’em how you feel):
I urge all legislators to strongly oppose all these anti-initiative bills: SHB 1876, HB 1727, and SB 5182. Stop taking away our right to initiative. I am adamantly opposed to sabotaging the citizens initiative process. On empowering the Attorney General to sabotage tax initiatives, 75% of folks who testified on it in the House were AGAINST it and 72% testified against it in the Senate. THE INITIATIVE PROCESS IS OURS, NOT YOURS, LEAVE IT ALONE!!

SEND ‘EM RIGHT AWAY (if you have problems, just email me and I’ll be happy to help).

Is it any wonder the AG is pushing for a lifetime ban on all my future political activity?

I can’t make any money doing my political activism.

I can’t make any money with my lawsuit against Inslee for abusing his power.

I don’t have the same rights as other Americans do anymore.

So I’m urging you — while I’m fighting to help our state and our nation with my initiative efforts and my lawsuit against Inslee — please help me fight back against Fascist Fergie by donating to my legal defense fund.
