BIG ENDORSEMENT: Senators Ericksen & Baumgartner blast Inslee, endorse I-1366
We’re thrilled to announce the endorsement of these two heroic conservative senators for I-1366:
STATE SENATOR DOUG ERICKSEN
October 22, 2015
I-1366 Necessary to Help Politicians Keep Their Campaign Promises
“Governor Mike Lowry, Governor Chris Gregoire, and now Gov. Jay Inslee all made a variation of the no new taxes promise, and all three broke that bond with the voters. I-1366 is the tool voters need to help aspiring politicians keep the promises they make to get their jobs.”
- The people deserve a chance to vote on a 2/3s constitutional amendment
- I-1366 makes raising taxes the last resort — not the first option
- Candidate Inslee said no new taxes, Gov. Inslee pushed one of the largest tax increases in state history
Whatcom County — State Senator Doug Ericksen (R-Ferndale) today called I-1366, the 2/3s to raise taxes initiative, necessary to help politicians keeps their campaign promises and restore faith in the political process.
“Candidates like to promise to make taxes a last resort, or promise not to raise your taxes, but something happens to them once they get to Olympia,” Sen. Ericksen said.
“Governor Mike Lowry, Governor Chris Gregoire, and now Governor Jay Inslee all made a variation of the no new taxes promise, and all three broke that bond with the voters. I-1366 is the tool voters need to help aspiring politicians keep the promises they make to get their jobs.”
The 2/3s requirement to raise taxes has been passed by the people of Washington 5 times. The two most recent votes received 64% support. After an overreaching and activist State Supreme Court used a muddled logic path to toss out the 2/3s requirement, the people deserve a chance to have the final say.
“Lets be clear, I-1366 would not lower taxes if the people get a chance to vote on the 2/3s, and the 2/3s rule does not prohibit tax increases. The 2/3s requirement forces legislators and governors to work together on solutions before reaching into the pocket of the tax paying citizen to take more of their hard earned dollars.”
“The pressure to raise taxes in Olympia is intense. Bus loads of tax increase advocates descend on the Capital every legislative session pushing big tax increases. This is not a Republican or a Democratic problem, this is a taxpayer problem. You vote for a person who says taxes will be the last resort and yet each year taxes are raised. I-1366 will truly make tax increases the last resort—not the first option.”
“If you don’t have a plan to get the job done without raising taxes, don’t promise to veto tax increases to get the job.”
Senator Michael Baumgartner (R-Spokane) wrote on his Facebook page and tweeted: “Vote yes on I-1366, the 2/3rds protection for taxes … it will help your government work smarter by providing an effective tool for reformers in the legislature … it will also help make sure that taxes are a last resort and provide essential protection for the Seattle Ds insatiable quest for a state income tax … (it’s also worth noting that if we had a Governor who hadn’t blatantly lied about taxes during his campaign to get elected this would all be moot … Jay Inslee’s dishonesty makes I-1366 a necessity.)”
— END —
Inslee is the absolute worst: he repeatedly promised to veto any tax increase. He said raising taxes was “the wrong way to go.” But within 24 hours of becoming governor, he went hog wild for income taxes, capital gains taxes, cap and tax, carbon taxes, fuel taxes, car tab taxes, beer taxes, business taxes (paid by their customers). He was the biggest cheerleader for the jaw-dropping $17.5 billion in tax hikes this session.
Taxpayers must protect themselves from Inslee’s insatiable tax appetite. Because he will not stop, ever, until you are dead broke.
