2/3 of the people want to protect 100% of the taxpayers

Thanks to our efforts working together (and a huge 2nd mortgage on my home), we’ve done an extraordinary job protecting taxpayers from tax increases.

In 2007, voters approved our initiative — I-960 — that reestablished the requirement that higher taxes require a 2/3 vote of the Legislature.  Voters passed it despite a multi-million dollar opposition campaign.

In 2010, the Legislature took away the 2/3 and so we responded with I-1053 — reestablishing the 2/3 — and it received 64% of the vote.  On the same ballot, there was also a 64% rejection of a state income tax.

In 2012, Initiative 1185 received more votes than any initiative in state history.  It got almost 2/3 of the people’s vote.

So 2/3 of the people clearly want to protect 100% of the taxpayers from Olympia’s insatiable appetite for higher taxes.

Thanks to the overwhelming vote for these initiatives, for the past 7 years, the taxpayers of Washington have been protected from higher taxes.  Such overwhelming votes — 3 times in a row and by wider and wider margins — shows the extraordinary support this policy has among the people.

1/3 of the people may not like the 2/3-for-taxes vote requirement but most of us think its’ protections are essential.

None of this would be possible without your financial support.   In this final month of 2013, we ask that you please contribute so the three of us receive compensation for our efforts this year.
