239 of 550 You gotta check out the new petition — it’s our latest lobbying effort

To get the Legislature to respect the voters vote for I-1366 and refer a 2/3-For-Taxes Constitutional Amendment to the ballot, we need to lobby the Legislature.  Yes, we know, the word ‘lobbying’ is a very dirty word because it’s associated with campaign contributions and smoke-filled rooms and back-room deals and behind-the-scenes rewards and threats.

That’s not what we’re talking about here.  This is totally different.  We are lobbying the Legislature openly, with public votes and public pressure.  Ever since I-1366 passed, we’ve been asking all of you to send emails to the 58 Democrats (18 Democrat Senators and 40 Democrats Reps) from pro-2/3 districts to join with the Republicans to refer the constitutional amendment to the 2016 ballot.

We announced on Tuesday our next initiative that puts a one-year time limit on tax increases.  We’re very openly saying that we’re more than happy to do this initiative next year if those 58 Democrats refuse to respect the voters’ passage of I-1366.  We’re making it very clear that voters will either vote on a 2/3-For-Taxes Constitutional Amendment or they will vote on our new tougher-to-raise-taxes initiative.

The petition that we’ll be using for the next initiative is another lobbying effort to convince these 58 Democrats to do the right thing.  Let’s be clear:  all next year, the petition below will be circulated all over the state, especially in these Democrats’ districts (just before the run for re-election).  And while we’re collecting signatures, our petitioners will be educating voters in these pro-2/3 districts that these 58 Democrats’ refusal to respect the vote on I-1366 forced this 7th initiative.

The new petition makes that voter education very easy:

It looks fantastic, doesn’t it?  Petitions are normally 11″x17″ but the law allows them to be bigger.  So our petition will be extra wide and will include critical information on the undemocratic Democrat politicians who are refusing to let the people vote.

But this initiative, its’ signature drive, and the petition above will not proceed and will not be necessary if those 58 Democrats respect the pro-2/3 voters in their districts by referring a clean constitutional amendment to the 2016 ballot.

As you can see, we are not resting on our laurels.  We are moving full steam ahead, pedal to the metal, to ensure the people get what they deserve:  permanent protection from Olympia’s insatiable tax appetite.

It’s clear we need your help now more than ever.
