$30 billion in higher taxes: tonight the House adds $30 billion to its previous $13 billion
This is what happens when there’s no 2/3 protection in Olympia.
Tonight (Tuesday, April 14th), the House Democrats are going to vote to impose a $15 billion tax hike on taxpayers statewide (gas taxes, car tab taxes, etc). And in that same bill, they will authorize Sound Transit to impose a different and additional $15 billion tax hike on Puget Sound taxpayers (sales taxes, car tab taxes, property taxes, etc).
That’s on top of the $13 billion in higher taxes they imposed last week ($6 billion from a new capital gains tax, $2.4 billion in higher sales taxes, $4.2 billion in higher taxes on customers of certain businesses, etc).
So the day before tax day Olympia is illustrating why the 2/3-For-Taxes Constitutional Amendment Initiative is absolutely essential.
The House wants to impose and authorize $43 billion in higher taxes and the Senate is countering with $26 billion. And all Governor Inslee can say is “I want even more.”
But this is what happens in Olympia when there isn’t a 2/3 vote requirement for tax increases.
The most effective way to fight back against this tax-hiking insanity is by helping us get the 2/3-For-Taxes Constitutional Amendment Initiative on the ballot. This is the most exciting, impactful, needed initiative we’ve ever done. Voters clearly need permanent protection from Olympia’s insatiable tax appetite.
