Car tab taxes are skyrocketing because the government is saying your $10,000 car is worth $22,000 — it’s totally dishonest. There’s a fix to this obscene injustice but the Democrats in Olympia are blocking it. Democrats say they get more emails from people asking them to get rid of daylight saving time than complain about their car tab taxes.
Let’s change that today. Below I’m gonna ask you to send House and Senate members emails demanding that they fix the artificially inflated car tab taxes that vehicle owners are getting hit with.
A little background:
* In 1999, when voters passed our “$30 car tabs” Initiative 695, voters specifically repealed this grossly unfair vehicle valuation schedule.
* In 2002, when voters passed our “$30 car tabs” Initiative 776, voters once again specifically repealed this artificially inflated vehicle valuation schedule.
So we, the voters, have TWICE rejected this blatantly upfair rip-off. We’ve repeatedly said NO to dishonest, artificially inflated car tab taxes.
Now that vehicle owners are getting sticker shock from their skyrocketing car tab bills, legislators are getting an earful from outraged constituents. Republicans have responded with legislative bills to fix the problem (Senate Bill 5851 and House Bill 2132 value vehicles at what they’re actually worth — Kelley Blue Book, etc).
Yesterday, I attended a hearing in Olympia on this. The Republicans were pushing bills to fix the problem, the Democrats were pooh-pooh’ing them. My state senator, Democrat Marko Liias, said vehicle owners were just whining and claimed more folks have contacted him to change daylight savings time than fix skyrocketing car tab bills.
Why are Democrats like Judy Clibborn blocking B 5851/HB 2132 (bills requiring vehicles to be taxed at what they’re worth)? Because the Democrats say they haven’t heard from enough regular citizens about it.
