Here’s what our various 2/3 initiatives have accomplished
From 1999 through 2006, our focus was on reducing taxes for the struggling taxpayers of Washington. 3 initiatives lowering car tab taxes, 3 initiatives limiting property taxes. So far, those initiatives have saved taxpayers over $26 billion.
In 2007, our policy focus shifted to making it tougher for Olympia to raise taxes.
In 2007, we sponsored and promoted I-960, requiring 2/3 legislative approval for tax increases. It was easily approved by voters.
Despite the Democrats having dominant control of the House and Senate, there wasn’t a single tax increase in 2008 and 2009, an amazing accomplishment.
In 2010, the Democrats took away the 2/3 but we responded with I-1053. After a hard fought campaign, 65% of voters reinstated the 2/3.
In 2011 and 2012, there were just a handful of tax hikes approved.
In 2012, we sponsored I-1185 and it received more votes than any initiative in state history.
In 2013 and 2014, only a few tax hikes were passed.
For the past 7 years, the voters have repeatedly passed our various 2/3 initiatives. And they’ve very effectively protected taxpayers from Olympia’s insatiable appetite for higher taxes.
By all of us working together, we’ve been extraordinarily successful at protecting taxpayers. Help us continue.
