Friday, May 8, 12-12:30pm, 500 Columbia St NW, Olympia, on the steps of the Temple of Justice (state supreme court). Press conference about OPEN SCHOOLS NOW lawsuit. Chance to hear from parent plaintiffs, attorney Joel Ard, Rep. Jim Walsh, me, and others. Everyone is welcome to join us.

All the other legal challenges to Inslee’s shutdown highlight his violations of the United State Constitution.

The OPEN SCHOOLS NOW lawsuit is unique in that it puts a needed spotlight on how Inslee’s shutdown violates our state Constitution.

Here is attorney Joel Ard’s statement about it:

It is the paramount duty of the state to ensure all children receive the basic education that is their constitutional right. We know and see every day that remote learning is no substitute for the personal attention of Washington state’s outstanding teachers. If the scientific evidence showed a threat to the health and safety of students or teachers, we could understand the shutdown order. But we’ve learned a lot in the last few months, most significantly that COVID 19 is a lethal threat to a few groups: the elderly, nursing home residents, and people who are already very sick. No person under 20 has died from COVID in Washington state. And earlier this week, Dr. Fauci spoke to the very low risk the virus poses to children and young people.

There’s more good news: there’s no proof that children can be asymptomatic carriers, and ever increasing evidence that they cannot be. Students in Washington state do not pose a health risk to themselves or others. But slamming the schoolhouse door on a generation of Washington children will harm their prospects for years to come. Social science proves to us how detrimental the loss of education will be to these children over time. These brave parents involved in this litigation are no different than so many others across the state who are eager to see their children return to schools they now know are safe to receive the great education their teachers yearn to give them.

We are asking the court to reaffirm that education is the state’s paramount duty and that the Governor cannot toss it aside based on outdated assumptions and non-existent threats.

I think it’s critical that we not allow ourselves to be intimidated and to confront Inslee when he oversteps his authority:
