Join me on election night tomorrow (Tues) in Issaquah (it’s where the State GOP is having theirs). Elections are a Rorschach test: be positive & you’ll see the positive.
Hilton Garden Inn, 1800 NW Gilman Blvd, Issaquah, 7-11pm
One year from tomorrow, on November 5, 2019, we will be getting together on election night to celebrate the voters overwhelming approval of Initiative 976, bringing back our $30 tabs (30tabs.com), and to rejoice in the voters’ overwhelming rejection of politicians’ 20% salary bonuses (GiveThemNothing.com). They will both be historic victories for the taxpayers of Washington and an important pivot point in our state’s history. We are committed to working super hard from today until then to make sure they are successful — but we can’t do it alone. We need everyone’s help to get them qualified and passed.
But that’s next year.
This year, we’re getting together tomorrow night to see if voters want to impose a massive new energy tax on themselves, to protect themselves from new grocery taxes, and undermine the 2nd amendment.
And there’s also an initiative on the ballot that makes it easier to sue police officers. As many of you know, that initiative is on the ballot because of my lawsuit Eyman v Wyman. The initiative process is sacrosanct to me — even liberal initiatives that qualify for the ballot deserve a public vote. We cannot allow the Legislature to sidestep the Constitution and undermine the people’s right to initiative. Thanks to that lawsuit (and the brilliant efforts of attorneys Joel Ard and David DeWolf), we saved the initiative process from a cowardly legislative attack. If the Legislature had gotten away with it (if not for Eyman v Wyman), they would have established a destructive legal/policy precedent empowering Olympia to block any initiative they didn’t like (which is all of them).
The State GOP election night party starts at 7 pm and lasts until around 11 pm. That’s where I and a bunch of friends and supporters will be (guess what I’ll be wearing — hint: it’s orange and has a number on it).
Love to have you join me/us there.
It’ll be at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1800 NW Gilman Blvd, Issaquah. 7-11pm.
I always see elections as victories — because if you’re positive, you’ll see the positive. There are hundreds of issues and races all across our communities, our state, and our nation to look at and cheer for. No side ever wins it all. No side loses it all.
There are silver linings in everything — you just need to look for them (even if you have to squint sometimes to see them).
The snake pit of politics is not for the meek. It’s a never-ending battle over principles, policies, and personalities. It’s vicious, it’s ruthless, it’s unbridled because the stakes are so high.
I’ve heard it said that politics is like sports, except that it matters.
I love it. I love everything about it. I love the people who do it and care about it. They are the heroes because they recognize the importance of it. We care about our communities, our state, and our nation and we want things to be better. It’s an honor to be part of it.
Other than being a husband and a father, nothing gives me greater joy and pride than working with all of you to make Washington better.
Hope to see you tomorrow night in Issaquah.

We are getting closer and closer to qualifying our $30 Tabs Initiative for a public vote.
In early July, we reached 202K signatures.
In late September, we hit 250K.
Getting the final 75,000 signatures by the Dec 31 deadline is tough. The weather is turning bad and the holidays are upon us.
