I’m traveling to Olympia today to testify against the nearly $10 billion tax package being pushed by House Democrats. A new state income tax (they’re calling it a capital gains tax), higher taxes on customers, higher taxes on everyone.
This is what happens when there’s no 2/3 vote requirement for tax increases. There’s no such thing as government self-restraint, no such thing as government self-control. Without the 2/3, it’s not a debate over whether or not to raise taxes; it’s only a question of which taxes gets raised and by how much. Tax hikes become a first resort, not a last resort.
