Major pivot point in our state’s history: next year’s legislative session

by | Nov 4, 2014

The top legislative priority for counties and cities is to make it easier for local governments to raise property taxes.  They want the 2015 Legislature to take away the voter approval requirement for big property tax increases.

The top legislative priority for Democrats and their powerful allies is to shut down the initiative process by regulating it to death.  They want the Legislature to impose massive new burdens on citizens who circulate initiative petitions.

Notice the pattern?  More power for government, less power for people.

In 2010, voters approved the 2/3 and so we saw very few tax hikes during the 2011 and 2012 sessions.

In 2012, voters approved the 2/3 and so there were very few tax increases in 2013 and 2014.

The Public Interest Groups (PIG’s) who feed at the trough are hungry.  They’re squealing for more.

State government is bigger than it’s ever been.  Local governments are larger than they’ve ever been.  Tax revenues are increasing even with the limits the voters have imposed.  State government is gonna have nearly $3 billion more to spend next cycle than last.

But the PIG’s want more.  They always want more.

We’re gearing up for some huge legislative battles next year.  Will you help us fight back?
