Our $30 tabs signature count announcement is on Friday in Olympia (after turn-in of sigs for anti-gun-rights initiative)
At 10:30am on Monday, we sent out an email update to our supporters and the media letting everyone know that we will be at the Secretary of State’s 520 Union Ave SE office in Olympia at 11:00 am Friday with our petitions to announce our current signature count for our $30 tabs initiative I-976.
At 3:47 pm on Monday, over 5 hours after our email update was sent, the anti-gun-rights initiative sponsors sent an email saying they’d be turning in their I-1639 signatures on Friday at 11 am.
So we’ll both be there at the building’s east entrance at 11 am. And even though our announcement was sent out well in advance of theirs, we plan to let them do their turn-in first and then we’ll do our announcement after that — probably around 11:30 am.
The deadline for the other initiatives to turn-in 350,000 signatures is tomorrow. Our deadline for turning in 350,000 signatures is not until the end of December.
Nonetheless, we think it’s gonna be helpful (and inspirational) for everyone to get a progress report.
So I implore you to donate today. Email me and order petitions today. Keep collecting signatures. Mail in your partially filled and fully filled petitions this week (either to the address on the back of the petition: PO Box 18250, Spokane, WA, 99228 or: Secretary of State, 520 Union Ave SE, Olympia, WA, 98501).
Call it a fire drill. Let’s maximize our signature count NOW so we know where we’re at and how much further we have to go.
Everyone is welcome to join us at Friday’s 11 am event in Olympia. It’ll be a great chance for us to thank you in person for all your help.
Taxpayers are getting ripped off. Skyrocketing car tab taxes are happening because of a blatantly dishonest vehicle valuation schedule that artificially inflates the taxes we’re being forced to pay. And state and local politicians know it’s happening and yet they’re refusing to pass a law to address this injustice. Even their baby-step proposals only nibble around the edges, none of their unpassed bills actually fix the problem.
Our $30 Tabs Initiative completely repeals that unfair vehicle valuation schedule. Under I-976, no longer will vehicles be taxed on their value. Instead, we’ll all pay just a flat, fair, and reasonable $30 per year to register/renew our vehicle registration. The initiative gets rid of numerous taxes and fees, including:
- Vehicle weight fees imposed by state government.
- Per-vehicle fees imposed by cities.
- All car tab taxes imposed by Sound Transit.
After I-976 passes, you’ll pay just $30 a year to get that stupid sticker you put on your license plate.
When voters passed our 1999 and 2002 $30 tabs initiatives, we got ourselves about a decade of tax relief.
But in recent years, state and local governments have gone on a rampage, because they figure voters have forgotten about those earlier votes.
But taxpayers haven’t forgotten. They’re ready to fight back. But that’s only possible if we qualify our initiative.
We fell short in 2016. We fell short again last year.
If we fail again, state and local governments are gonna see it as a green light to indiscriminately impose even more taxes, fees, tolls, and per-mile charges on vehicles. It’ll be like pigs at the trough.
