Pure insanity: Republicans helping Inslee’s reelection by passing $15 billion in tax hikes
In his 2012 election campaign, Jay Inslee strongly opposed raising taxes and repeatedly promised to veto tax hikes. Enough voters bought it and he won.
Within 24 hours of becoming governor, he shattered those promises. He’s been obsessed with raising taxes ever since. Everyone knows that, especially the voters he misled. But the House and Senate Republicans in Olympia stopped all of Inslee’s tax hikes in 2013 and 2014. Was it the right thing to do? Voters sure said it was: in the 2014 election, voters rewarded the Republicans with more seats in the House and Senate.
Inslee is incredibly vulnerable on the tax issue in 2016 — and he knows it.
That’s THE REASON Inslee and the Democrats have been so obsessed with getting the Republicans to agree with them to raise taxes this session — it’s all been about neutralizing the tax issue in 2016.
In 2016, in the governor’s race, house races, and senate races, when Republicans challengers say “Inslee and the Democrats have been obsessed with raising taxes for the past 4 years, elect me instead,” Inslee and the Democrats wanna be able to say “What are you talking about? Both Republicans and Democrats agreed that raising taxes was necessary.”
In these final days of the legislative session, will the Republicans help Inslee’s reelection by passing $15 billion in statewide gas taxes and car tab taxes and by allowing $11-$15 billion in sales taxes and car tab taxes in the Puget Sound region?
Tell them if they do, it’s pure insanity. Tell them if they do, it will help Inslee’s reelection campaign.

If any of you vote for tax increases — any tax increases — you’ll be doing exactly what Democrats want and Inslee needs: giving them political cover for their tax hiking agenda. Your emails are important. But really, the only effective way to fight back against this tax-hiking insanity is by helping us get the 2/3-For-Taxes Constitutional Amendment Initiative on the ballot. Voters clearly need permanent protection from Olympia’s insatiable tax appetite.
