Say “NO WAY” to capital gains income tax — legislative hearing at 8 am, Feb 16 (next Fri) in Olympia – tell ’em NO!!!!!

by | Feb 9, 2018

To ensure that as few regular people can attend as possible, at 8 am next Friday in Olympia, there will be a legislative hearing on the Democrats’ bill to impose a new capital gains income tax. The state budget office has completed its’ analysis of House Bill 2967 and this massive tax increase will cost taxpayers $8.2 billion over the next 10 years (

But the $8.2 billion cost — as high as that is — is grossly misleading.

Because $8.2 billion is how much it’ll cost taxpayers and our state’s economy IF THE LEGISLATURE NEVER CHANGES IT LATER. You and I know that that is an impossibility. Once the Pandora’s box of an income tax gets opened, the sky’s the limit on how high it’ll go and who it’ll hit.

The first injection of heroin is a rush, but after that the user needs more and more and more to get that same feeling. It’s like that with politicians and taxes — they love the feeling of euphoria that comes from imposing a new tax, but they need to increase it again and again and again to maintain their high.

Colorful metaphors notwithstanding, House Bill 2967 is a huge threat to taxpayers. It’s a Pandora’s box that can never be opened.

Today and all of next week, ALL OF US need to tell ALL 147 legislators to oppose this new income tax.

Send them an email that says this or something like this (tell ’em what you think):

“Legislators, nine times in nine different elections the voters have said no to a state income tax. In 2010, all 39 counties — nearly 2/3 of voters — rejected Initiative 1098’s income tax. We don’t want an income tax, especially a capital gains income tax. House Bill 2967 is a threat to the taxpayers of Washington and I strongly oppose it. This $8.2 billion tax increase is a Pandora’s box — once it gets opened there’s no limit to how high it’ll go and who it’ll hit. The Democrats who are sponsoring HB 2967 are sticking their finger in the eye of the people of Washington who have repeatedly and emphatically rejected an income tax. You’re elected to represent the people, not rule over them. I despise this bill and ask that legislators reject HB 2967’s advancement in the legislative process. We don’t want an income tax, especially a capital gains income tax.”

Subject line: I strongly oppose the Democrats’ capital gains income tax bill — HB 2967 is a Pandora’s box — don’t open it

Cut and paste these email addresses into the To line of your email — here’s the 98 House members for the 2018 session:;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Send a separate email for the Senate — here’s the 49 senators for the 2018 session:;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Sending these 2 emails will really help — BUT IT’S ONLY EFFECTIVE IF WE ALL DO IT. If you have any problem, just email me the message you want sent, and I’ll forward it to all legislators (and I’ll cc you). OK?
After 20 years of fighting for taxpayers, we’ve learned that the most effective way to fight the Democrats’ tax-hiking schemes is by taking our case directly to the people. That’s why we’re moving full steam ahead with We Don’t Want An Income Tax. It prohibits the state and local governments from imposing any kind of income tax, especially a capital gains income tax.

Jack, Mike, and I are committed to protecting taxpayers. But we can’t do it alone. We need everyone’s help.
