SEATTLE TIMES: Eyman to blame for everything

Blame Tim Eyman for our funding woes

SEATTLE TIMES, Mon, Sept 22nd, 2014

Legislators, both Republican and Democrat, have struggled to balance the needs of the state with the available resources. And now they are held in contempt by the court because there are not enough resources [“Supreme Court finds Legislature in contempt on education funding,” Politics Northwest, Sept. 11].

The people of Washington should direct their contempt to where it is deserved:  to Tim Eyman. By appealing to the selfishness in us all, he has made impossible the tasks of our Legislature.  I honor our representatives of both parties who are trying to serve us with wisdom and practicality.  I have nothing but contempt for Eyman, who is too much of a coward to run for office where he could try to be responsible instead of being reprehensible.

Edward Roe, Silverdale

When have politicians in Olympia shown “wisdom and practicality?”  For the past 16 years, we’ve watched them take away our $30 car tabs, legislatively attack the citizens’ right to initiative, sidestep voter-approved spending limits, violate the 2/3-for-taxes vote requirement, and constantly declare controversial bills “emergencies” to take away the people’s right to vote by referendum (remember when they said it was a threat to the public health and safety if they didn’t impose taxes to build a sports stadium?)

When it comes to contemptible and reprehensible behavior, Jack, Mike, and I are pikers compared with the pros in Olympia.
