Smashing victory yesterday — and it only happened because of all of you
Thanks to your persistence and your insistence, Republican Phil Fortunato has succeeded Pam Roach as the senator for the 31st district. He was sworn in on Saturday:
For the past 2 weeks, we’ve asked you to help encourage the Democrat-controlled King County Council to do this. Our team effort was a smashing success.
It wasn’t easy. I’ve found this to be true: government sometimes does the right thing, but only after exhausting all other options.
In 2014, the King County Council dragged its feet on a House appointment, delaying it for 60 days (http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/politics-government/article25914496.html). There was tremendous pressure on them to do it again. To make sure that didn’t happen, we asked you to help. And you did — BIG TIME. You provided an unprecedented level of citizen encouragement to not delay.
I am so incredibly proud of all of you for this tremendous accomplishment.
Because of your relentless engagement and activism, on day one of this year’s legislative session (tomorrow), the Majority Coalition Caucus in the Senate will have 25 members and the D’s will have 24. So no tie, no Democrat coup.
Now that our team effort has given the Republicans control, our mission is to repeatedly remind the Republicans in the Senate and the Republicans in the House that they’re representing the 2/3 of voters who clearly oppose higher taxes. To repeatedly remind them that Inslee/Democrats/Big Labor/WEA-sponsored judges/the media only represent the 1/3 who want higher taxes. To repeatedly remind them that if they don’t hold the line of taxes, the initiative process and the people will.
Please everyone – RIGHT NOW – send an email to the 25 members of the Majority Coalition Caucus — cut and paste these email addresses into the To line:

Email them this or something like this:
“MCC members, we are the 2/3 of the voters who oppose higher taxes. We are the ones who elected you. We are the ones who worked our tails off to get you your 25 members on day one of the session. We are the ones who will cheer when you refuse to raise taxes. We are the ones who will defend you and relect you if you stand up for us. We are the ones being crushed by Sound Transit’s massive tax increases and can’t afford higher taxes even if we wanted to (which we don’t). We know Inslee/Democrats/Big Labor/WEA-sponsored judges/the media are pushing higher taxes but they only represent the 1/3 of voters who want higher taxes. We must hang together or else we will certainly hang separately. We are the 2/3 of voters who oppose higher taxes — represent us this legislative session.”
Thank you so much for helping make Saturday’s senate appointment a reality. I’m so proud of all of you.
