Tax-hiking Democrats try to exploit bridge accident

by | May 24, 2019

Taking a page out the Obama Administration’s “never let a crisis go to waste” playbook, tax-hiking Democrats are trying to exploit yesterday’s bridge accident.  Early on, the Associated Press reported that an oversized truck collided with the bridge’s support trusses causing the collapse.  If that’s true, then it’s an accident resulting from a criminal act.

Is the Democrats’ first priority to investigate to learn what actually happened so they can initiate a fact-based, measured response?

       Of course not.

Instead, they’re ghoulishly, crassly, exploitatively, and predictably demanding the Legislature unilaterally raise taxes $8.4 billion — without a vote of the people.  No discussion of learning the facts first.  No discussion of using existing taxes — Washington has one of the highest gas taxes in the nation — more effectively.

From today’s Publicola:  “At the King County Conservation Voters annual fundraising dinner in South Lake Union last night when the news of the collapse had everyone glued to their phones, the uniform response from the lefty environmentalists and Democratic politicians in the room was:  Maybe now we’ll get a transportation package.”

For the general fund budget, tax-hiking Democrats are pushing 15 different tax increases.  OFM confirms those will cost taxpayers between $7 billion and $8 billion.  That’s already way over the amount voters are willing to tolerate.  It’s completely crazy to shove another $8.4 billion down the taxpayers’ throats without letting them vote on it.
