TAXPAYERS BEWARE: Inslee is Governor and session starts on Monday!

by | Jan 7, 2015

No one is safe while the Legislature is in session. That is a truism, but it is particularly accurate with Jay Inslee as Governor.

Candidate Inslee repeatedly promised to oppose tax increases. He even guaranteed — consistently — that he’d veto any tax increase. Rhetorically, he was more anti-tax than Rob McKenna.

But it was all an act. You knew it, we knew it, but too many voters give politicians the benefit of the doubt when they make emphatic, repeated promises not to raise taxes.

So we’re stuck with say-one-thing-do-something-else Inslee as Governor. And while you were celebrating the holidays, he went bonkers proposing tax hikes.

Hidden during Christmas-time, he began pushing for $10 billion in higher taxes for the general fund (he’s calling it a capital gains tax but it’s really an obnoxious state income tax that’ll eventually be imposed on everyone) and $10 billion in higher transportation taxes (he’s calling it a carbon tax but it’ll end up being a tax on everyone).

He’s also pushing to give a green light to Sound Transit to jack up property taxes, sales taxes, and car tab taxes to pay for their multi-billion dollar choo choo trains and other boondoggles.

And that’s just from Inslee. We’re sure that 147 legislators have additional ideas for picking the pockets of taxpayers this session.

We clearly have our work cut out for us this year. Inslee is the head cheerleader for a powerful group of special interest groups that are salivating for higher taxes.

The 2015 Legislature must not raise taxes. They must listen to the people’s clear and consistent message opposing higher taxes.

Politicians need to remember: they’re elected to represent the people, not rule over them.

We’re gearing up for a huge fight this year — we need your help to succeed.
