Tell ’em to stop: Democrats’ tax obsession is dragging out legislative session

by | Jun 15, 2017

Not only are the crazies on Seattle’s City Council barreling toward a new income tax, Democrats in Olympia are too.  Even with Inslee admitting defeat on a new capital gains tax, in private budget negotiations, House and Senate Democrats just won’t stop pushing it.  And that’s causing special session after special session.

What part of the word “NO” don’t the Democrats get?

Voters have rejected an income tax 9 times.  Most recently, in 2010, it got 35% of the vote, failing in all 39 counties.  But Democrats arrogantly ignore this clear voter mandate again and again, year after year.

There are lots of things to dislike about Democrats.  They love to micromanage what we eat and drink.  They police every spoken word to find offense.  They lecture, they condescend.

But what is truly infuriating about Democrats is their arrogant refusal to accept the voters’ verdict on taxes.

At a time when car tab taxes are skyrocketing, Democrats demand more.  When property taxes are taxing struggling working families out of their homes, Democrats push for more.  When sales taxes are way past 10%, Democrats want more.  Business taxes, tobacco taxes, liquor taxes, marijuana taxes — they insist on more and more.

Jimminny Christmas, what’s it gonna take for them to get the message?

It’s critical that each and every one of us communicates with Olympia’s legislators RIGHT NOW.

I ask you — RIGHT NOW — to email this, or something like this to ALL legislators:

“Legislators, from our existing taxes, the state budget is gonna be $3 billion higher than the last.  That’s more than enough to adopt a no-new-taxes budget.  Olympia has a prioritizing-spending-problem, not a lack-of-taxes-problem.  Stop trying to convince us that we’re undertaxed — we’re clearly not.  Your failure to respond to the taxpayers’ rightful public outrage over artificially inflated car tab taxes is the last straw.  We’re not going to tolerate even higher taxes on top of our already crushing tax burden.  Sound Transit’s 54 billion dollar pig-out has sucked all the oxygen out of the room when it comes to raising taxes.  Stop trying to take more of the people’s money — we’re tapped out.  Legislators, adopt a no-new-taxes budget and go home.”
