WATCH VIDEO: Eyman ridicules bill to obliterate 1% property tax cap — House Democrats’ budget takes away voter approval requirement for property tax increases

by | Mar 28, 2017

No taxpayers is safe while the Democrats are in Olympia.  House Bill 2006 completely obliterates the 1% property tax cap.  My fierce testimony against it appears here:

Yesterday, House Democrats released their budget and it completely takes away the 1% property tax cap (EVERETT HERALD: “In addition, the budget assumes $128.3 million from removing the 1 percent cap on annual increases in property taxes. The measure is not part of the package, but the revenue is in the budget plan.”).

Thanks to 58% of voters in 2001 and nearly 90% of legislators in 2007, for 16 years the law has been to let the voters decide on property tax increases. The Democrats are trying to take us back to the “bad ol days” when politicians didn’t have to ask voters’ permission to increase property taxes.

I ask you — RIGHT NOW — to email this, or something like this to ALL legislators:

“House & Senate Democrats, your tax-hiking obsession is infuriating. Taxpayers don’t support taking away the voters right to vote on property tax increases. 58% of voters in 2001 and nearly 90% of legislators in 2007 want the voters to decide on property tax increases. I don’t support your efforts to get rid of the 1% property tax cap. Senate Republicans, please kill House Bill 2006 — it kills the 1% property tax cap. And frankly, I don’t support you creating an income tax as the Inslee and the House Democrats do. I oppose the Democrats’ tax increases on customers of businesses. I don’t support your tax raising schemes. Voters outside Seattle — 2/3 of voters — have repeatedly emphasized their opposition to tax increases. To all legislators: vote NO on any tax increase bills this year.”
