We can only count on ourselves to fight this fight
Our efforts are needed now more than ever. Massive gas tax increases and skyrocketing car tab taxes are being pushed. They’re targeting a special session in November.
I know, we don’t have to worry because Jay Inslee promised to veto all tax increases. We can count on him, right? Jay Inslee also promised there’d be no transportation taxes in 2013. We can take that to the bank, right?
WRONG! We can only count on ourselves to fight this fight.
The “listening tour” on transportation has become a magnet for everyone who’ll get our money. The tax-takers are lining up like pigs at the trough, while most taxpayers are too busy earning a living to attend. The meetings are giving a distorted view of what the people think about tax increases.
Taxpayers are still struggling. It’s still an extremely tough economy. Many citizens are barely getting by.
How do regular taxpayers communicate our views on tax increases?
There are 5 tax advisory votes on the fall ballot. The Legislature raised 5 taxes and thanks to voter-approved Initiative 1185, voters are being asked on each one: “Should this tax increase be REPEALED or MAINTAINED?”
If voters say “MAINTAINED” to all 5 tax increases, it’ll be like ringing the dinner bell for more taxes. Politicians and tax-takers in Olympia will see it as a message from voters that tax increases are the way to go.
But if voters say “REPEALED” to all or most of those 5 tax increases, it’ll send a better message: CAUTION, TAXED OUT TAXPAYERS AHEAD.
So make sure that you vote on the 5 tax advisory votes. The results will have a big impact on politicians’ newest effort to raise taxes.
From now until the end of December, we are “passing the hat” – asking our supporters to contribute to our separate, stand-alone compensation fund “Help Us Help Taxpayers” so we can continue fighting for taxpayers.
Our program only works if supporters don’t forget about us.
