We can’t accept tax policy that only 35% of the voters support

by | May 20, 2013

During last November’s high turn-out presidential year, nearly 2/3 of voters overwhelmingly approved Initiative 1185 making it tougher to raise taxes.  The opponents of the 2/3 managed to get the courts to side with them.  So now Washington citizens are living under a tax policy that only one-third of the voters support.

         That’s ridiculous.

Opponents of the 2/3 have had numerous opportunities to convince the voters to support making it easier to raise taxes.  But in campaign after campaign, they lost every time.  Voters don’t want it to be easy for Olympia to raise taxes; they want it to be harder.  They want tax increases to be a last resort.

We can’t accept tax policy that only 35% of the voters support.

Our new initiative — LET THE VOTERS DECIDE ON A 2/3-FOR-TAXES CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT — gives taxpayers the chance to reiterate their support for the 2/3.  With our initiative, we’re going to let the voters decide on a 2/3-for-taxes constitutional amendment.
