We gotta protect ourselves from tax-obsessed Democrats who now control House & Senate
This will be our 19th year fighting for taxpayers. Thanks to our supporters, we’ve gotten 16 initiatives on the ballot. Thanks to the voters, 10 were approved. Thanks to our supporters and the voters, those initiatives have directly saved taxpayers over $35 billion so far.
All of those successes and all of those victories for the taxpayers occurred when Democrats controlled the House and Senate and Governorship.
Taxpayers face that same threat again this legislative session. The state house in controlled by Dems 50-48. The state senate is controlled by Dems 25-24. And despite promising to veto tax increases, Jay Inslee has shown himself to be nothing but a rubber stamp governor who will sign any tax hike that passes both chambers.
So we’ve got our work cut out for us. But we’re accustomed to this particular fight. And as we’ve shown, our greatest taxpayer victories have occurred when Democrats controlled the Legislature.
This is what I do and it’s all I do. I don’t have hobbies. I’m not a big sports fan. I don’t sleep much. I spend 24/7/365 thinking about and working on a straightforward mission: helping protect taxpayers using whatever tools are available. I’ve got a great team who helps me and I’ve got all of you, the best friends and supporters a political cause could hope for.
In addition to our tax-cutting initiatives, some of our greatest victories were scored with our tougher-to-raise-taxes initiatives that stopped taxes from being increased in the first place.
That’s exactly what we’re doing this year — stopping a particular tax from being imposed before it gets imposed.
On Monday, we’re filing our initiative for 2018: “We Don’t Want An Income Tax” (Monday also happens to be the first day of the legislative session). Our initiative prohibits the state and any local government (like Seattle did) from imposing any kind of income tax, especially a capital gains income tax. The state supreme court has ordered the 2018 Legislature to “find” an additional $1 billion in taxes. When Inslee’s carbon tax gets killed this session, the Democrats only have one other way to raise that much money — and that’s with a capital gains income tax. Democrats and the special interest groups that fund and control them know that they may lose their majority in the November 2018 elections so they’ve gotta git while the gittin’s good.
Democrats have lusted for an income tax for decades. And with the supreme court’s $1 billion mandate as their justification, there’s no doubt taxpayers’ wallets are in danger.
Democrats are just waiting for that moment when we take our foot off the gas. We’ve gotta be pedal-to-the-metal at all times.
Jack, Mike, and I are committed to protecting taxpayers. But we can’t do it alone. We need everyone’s help.
