* A public vote on any tax increase
On the other side, Inslee and the Democrats are demanding higher taxes and oppose letting the voters vote on any tax increase.
Repeated ballot box victories clearly show that 2/3 of voters are against the Legislature raising taxes. Subtract the Seattle vote and the anti-tax vote is even higher. Swing district voters are overwhelmingly opposed to higher taxes.
House and Senate Democrats are only representing Seattle when it comes to taxes. Inslee is acting like the Governor of Seattle, not the Governor of Washington state.
Sen. Tim Sheldon is the only Democrat who stands up for taxpayers. No other Democrat legislator does that. Not Guy Palumbo, Mark Mullett, Steve Hobbs, Dean Takko — every one of them is a de facto senator from Seattle.
A special session has been called because the Democrats insist on ignoring what 2/3 of voters want — and that’s a no-new-taxes budget.
Voters don’t want a new state income tax or new taxes on customers of businesses or higher car tab taxes or property taxes or sales taxes or …
We’re taxed enough already. And that existing tax burden is generating $3 billion more in revenue for the Legislature to write a no-new-taxes budget.
Taxpayers are being forced to pay for special session after special session, per diem after per diem, staff costs after staff costs BECAUSE OF THE DEMOCRATS’ DEMAND FOR HIGHER TAXES.
