With Governors like Jay Inslee, Initiative 1366 is absolutely essential

When running for the governor in 2012, candidate Jay Inslee said tax increases would take us “on the wrong road.”  He said tax hikes were “off the table.”  He repeatedly promised to “veto any tax increase.”

         Within 24 hours of being sworn in, Inslee completely reversed himself, endorsing a laundry list of tax increases.

         After being publicly rebuked by voters this past November, Inslee nonetheless doubled down and began pushing for a new state income tax (he calls it a capital gains tax), a new carbon tax (cap & tax), increased car tab taxes and gas taxes, and many others.

        With Governors like Jay Inslee, Initiative 1366 is absolutely essential.

        The 2/3-For-Taxes Constitutional Amendment Initiative is the most exciting, impactful, needed initiative we’ve ever done.  Voters have 5 times supported initiatives requiring a two-thirds vote of the Legislature for any tax increase.  We want that policy to be permanent.  We want that policy enshrined in our state Constitution.  And once it’s there, it’s forever.  Politicians can never take it away.

         17 other states already have in their state Constitutions a supermajority vote requirement for tax increases.  Let’s make Washington state #18.  But we need your help to make Initiative 1366 a reality.

        First and foremost, we need your financial support to pay for petitions, mailings, and professional signature collectors.  We ask that you please donate today (hit the donate button above). 

        Last week, we mailed everyone a petition, a letter, and a return envelope.  We encourage you to make copies of the petition locally.

       We have from now until July 2nd to get over 320,000 voter signatures to qualify our critically important initiative for the ballot.  That’s over 2000 signatures PER DAY!  That’s a huge mountain to climb.  That’s why we’ve already hired professional signature collectors to help.  That’s why we need you to donate.  That’s why we need your help gathering signatures for the next few months.  There are plenty of voters who are eager to sign our petitions — we just need to give them every opportunity to sign.  

        Let me be absolutely clear:  success is the only option with the signature drive for I-1366.  Please help us make it happen.
