YAY! All R’s vote no, all D’s vote yes on anti-initiative bills in house and senate committees this morning

by | Feb 2, 2018

In the house this morning, congratulations to Republicans Joyce McDonald, Morgan Irwin, Vicki Kraft, and Norm Johnson for not voting for this horrible anti-initiative bill. Even though the ACLU pointed out that the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down a previous Washington law that tried to register petitioners, every single despicable Democrat ignored the court, ignored the ACLU, and ignored their constituents safety, and put all citizens in mortal danger for simply exercising a basic First Amendment right.

It is was partisan, party-line vote — all R’s refused to vote to put citizens in danger, all D’s enthusiastically voted to put citizens in danger. Because Democrats control things, the bill passed out of committee and will now move forward to a house floor vote. We hope and encourage all legislators, especially Republicans, to abandon their support for this anti-American monstrosity.

Who would be willing to participate in the process if their name, where they live, a photo headshot, and which initiatives they’ll be collecting signatures on is released within 2 days of being registered? Not many. It’s reckless, irresponsible, and immoral for Democrats to put a bunch of bullseyes on the backs of the people who are just giving voters the chance to sign an initiative petition.

Here’s my testimony against this anti-initiative bill:

Your emails are having a huge positive impact on the process. It’s critical that we keep the pressure on.

Send legislators an email that says this or something like this (tell ’em what you think):

“Legislators, I ask you to strongly oppose anti-initiative bills HB 1537 and SB 5397. The courts have already said it’s unconstitutional to register petitioners. And even if it was legal, it’s unAmerican to require government permission, registration, licensing, training, criminal background checks, photo headshots, drivers licenses, etc. just to exercise a basic First Amendment right like petitioning our government. These anti-initiative bills are dangerous — initiative opponents will know exactly who to target. All it will take is a brick through a window, slashed tires, an assaulted child, or other violence to deter that person from exercising their First Amendment rights. Back off. The initiative process is ours, not yours, leave it alone.”

Subject line: I ask you to oppose anti-initiative bills House Bill 1537 and Senate Bill 5397

Sending these 2 emails will really help — BUT IT’S ONLY EFFECTIVE IF WE ALL DO IT. If you have any problem, just email me the message you want sent, and I’ll forward it to all legislators (and I’ll cc you). OK?
After 20 years of fighting for taxpayers, we’ve learned that the most effective way to fight the Democrats’ tax-hiking schemes is by taking our case directly to the people. That’s why we’re moving full steam ahead with We Don’t Want An Income Tax. It prohibits the state and local governments from imposing any kind of income tax, especially a capital gains income tax.

Jack, Mike, and I are committed to protecting taxpayers. But we can’t do it alone. We need everyone’s help.
